Bryan Farquharson - Aevum x 平 Timepieces Owner

I'm a gear head. I'm a Canadian Red Seal Automotive Technician that started out at Toyota and reached my Toyota Pro Tech certification then moved on to Mercedes-Benz / AMG.

I'm also a leather crafter and a machinist. Since 2011 I've been crafting handmade watch straps and have had the pleasure of making high quality straps for hundreds of great individuals. From there Aevum grew into Aevum Timepieces - a watch company for anyone with automotive passion, and now that Aevum has an in-house manual lathe and fiber laser, I've begun hand making watches that carry on that automotive feel.

Aside from racing myself in both drag and circuit courses, Aevum has sponsored local racers like James and his near-1000hp time attack Integra Type-R pictured above.

The Change to Garage Hira

Originally I started as Aevum over a decade ago, now I'm turning over a new page.

Aevum carved out a name as an automotive brand and a good one. But the road has led somewhere new, and it's time the name caught up with the work. Aevum is transitioning into Garage Hira (車庫平) a one-man garage in Hirakata, Osaka, building watches by hand from the ground up.

The name is a small play on where I am. Hira shares its sound with Hirakata, but the kanji chosen, 平, means something different, peaceful, and flat. Both feel right. The work itself is slow and quiet, the kind of focus that comes from hours alone at a lathe or brush finishing a case. And so much of what I make lives on flat surfaces, dial faces, case backs — surfaces treated as a canvas rather than just a component.

This rebrand is a reflection of what my work has actually become. What started in automotive culture has evolved into something more personal — handmade watchmaking, built piece by piece in-house. Titanium cases machined from raw stock. Signature torched titanium chapter rings and case backs, each one heat-colored by hand. And now, the newest chapter: fully handmade dials, hand painted, hand lumed, no two ever quite the same.

Garage Hira isn't trying to be a watch factory. It's a garage. It always has been. Time to call it what it wonderfully is and take Aevum's original slogan of embracing automotive passion to a whole new level.
